My Experience with Teams

Building and leading a team at Apple was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Transitioning from an individual engineer to an engineering manager, I had the privilege of growing a team of over 25 engineers across three countries. The fast-paced environment of shipping new hardware nearly every year required us to work closely together, deploying solutions to factories and sharing learnings from project to project. This constant collaboration and adaptation helped us become a better, more integrated and cohesive team. However, as the team expanded, the communication overhead increased significantly, presenting new challenges.

Nearly 39% of executives believe that AI will result in fewer human interactions, negatively impacting the workforce. This reduction in social interaction can lead to feelings of isolation and decreased team cohesion.4

AI will undoubtedly change workplace communication. However, I strongly believe that - if leveraged correctly - AI frees up time for employees to engage in more impactful conversations focused on decisions that need to be made, actions that need to be taken, or ideas that should be discussed. It’s these conversations that are worth preserving and making time for, when AI can take on the burden of routine syncs solely designed to bring alignment.

Increased Stress and Anxiety

The introduction of AI in the workplace can have profound psychological effects on workers, including increased stress, anxiety, and job insecurity.
